From the LSL Wiki, llHTTPRequest: http://secondlife.com/badgeo/wakka.php?wakka=llHTTPRequest (I think would be the best way to get Agent Ruby talking in SL)
Linden blog post on the increased allowed frequency of using the llHTTPRequest: http://blog.secondlife.com/2006/09/01/second-life-1121-release-on-september-6/ (This update has since been delayed to next Wednesday, September 13 2006, but that should be well within our time scale. I'm not personally familiar with the coding involved with this, Lynn I'm sure will know what to do with it)
libsecondlife: http://www.libsecondlife.org/ (People reverse engineering the Second Life client. Still early stages, but they are moving towards being able to control an avatar using a computer AI rather than a human sitting at a computer. At the Second Life Community Convention they were talking to people interested in doing theatre and machinima using computer controlled avatars rather than human controlled avatars. As their stuff gets more powerful and more stable we may want to move to this kind of technology for controlling AI bots)

On a somewhat more pessimistic note, I've been fighting with the land and group management tools over the last few days, and have found that almost none do what they purport to do. At present, permission are a bit all or nothing, with not much fine control over interactions of various "classes" of users (creators, site managers, visitors) with the environment. -JeffA
Not long ago a student posted to our mailing list about his work with motion capture and he showed interest in using libsecondlife. I think that would be possible in the near future using animations that could be triggered in sequence by libsecondlife(or an LSL script..) but the real fun comes when Linden Lab releases their new pupeteering animations.. It is hoped we will be able to pose the avatar real time. That could lead to some amazing work.
